Mavic CrossMax 29'er Wheels
I love Mavic. In fact, with the exception of my FSA's, Mavic is all I use across every one of my my bikes, MTB, road and 'cross. I made a call to our good friend at Mavic and explained the 29'er project being worked on and he graciously said a pair of the allusive CrossMax 29'ers could be sourced to help out. Stoked! I run the 26" version of these for rim brakes on my 1 x 1 and love their performance. Stoke dto have a bigger version.
I believe these are Tubeless which is a concern of mine as I've never run native tubeless or Stans. Moving aside the tubeless versus tubed debate, can anyone recommend a set of Tubeless 29'er tires worth their salt? I run the Hutchinson Python tread (tubed version) on my MTB and think it's about a C+ or maybe B in terms of quality but woudl love something better. Suggestions? I need to check and see if these wheels can run tubed tires as an option. Not clear on this....

You can always thow a tube in a UST tire.
You can also pick your fav 29er (non UST) and run it with Stans.
Better yet, get some custom 29er x 2.2 Dugast Rihnos and Glue'em!!! Brap!

maxxis is making the crossmark in a 29er. try full cycle or online. i run maxxis rancheros (non-tubeless that i converted) and absolutely love the things. have heard good things about crossmarks, too. the rancheros feel great and hook up in corners like rock stars. not sure what that means, but it sounded good.
if your new wheels aren't tubeless, call me and we'll make them tubeless in about 10 minutes. lighter that way, too.
i'm never going back to tubes.
now that i think about it, BCS has a bunch of maxxis stuff, too. maybe they have them.

My name is Evan Sandstrom and I'm a friend of Corey Carlson and Scott Wenzel's. I met you out in Golden last year at a cross race on table mtn. Love reading your blog man it is always entertaining. For tires I would go for the Maxxis Cross Mark 29er. I saw an ad in a magazine for those and they are great. I run them on my mountain bike, and I have yet to find one that is better. Try em out

what tire pressure are you running the Python? If you are running it with tubes, I would venture to guess you are above 35psi? Run the Python tubeless, I run mine at 25-29psi terrain depending and feel that they are the most predictable, best corner tire on the market. The have a tubular cx ride quality. Mine are on a geared and single ti IF to give you more reference. Tire setup is where you can have the most effect on your bike ride quality. The new 29" Hutchison's are awesome. go to:

Whatup Ken! Great to hear from you. Your post reminds me that I need to come back and visit your blog! That statement you had to "write it down and hang it up so you can see it and visualize it every day" (as it relates to goals you may have) truly was an inspiration to trying to get myself to Belgium this winter.
I am running about 40-45 PSI in the 26" Pythons. They are tubbed though. I agree about their cornering traits which is important to me and my style of riding. I'll weigh these in again for the 29'er.

Just to agree with everyone, the crossmarks are titties. Another great option for 29" is the WTB Exiwolf. Not UST, but they are awesome tires. They roll great, and stick through the corners like they have glue on the sidewalls. Something to think about.

I feel the Crossmarks breakaway in looser conditions (or typical Colorado riding). The Tubeless Ready Pythons are a lightweight tire, with a supple casing and sifter compound. With a 9er you can run less pressure as these tire are 'less' prone to punctures. I still like the Reynolds/ Dugast combo just for the Gucci factor...

Indeed Belgium man. Been focusing on this since last December. Everyday thinking about it. 10 days in January climaxing with the UCI Master's Worlds. Got good news today on where I think I'll be staying as well. Angels from above hooked me into the scene. Stoked!

I believe the Mavic wheels are UST ready (got a set on order) and Hutchinson is the only maker of a 29inch UST tire right now.
I run either the Maxxis Crossmark or the Ignitors in 29". These are non UST tires with Stan's tire sealant. The Crossmark feels a bit stiffer than the Ignitors. Currently running a Crossmark out back and an Ignitor up front. 29/30psi in both seems to work well and I'm 175lb.
