Solid feedback on the cable routing!

The yoke looks interesting too. Not sure if it will be a mud trap or not. My Rock Lobsters are all super stiff without the yoke and no build up of mud:

I've used both routings and both are fine. You are grabbing cables either way. I do find that grabbing downtube routed cables in muddy conditions tends to scratch paint jobs, if you care about that sort of thing. World Cuppers use both methods, which shows it comes down to preference.
When I was racing I tried the single ring thing and while it is all Boulder Cool and all, I feel it is an unnecessary risk. You risk being undergeared for a road section or sprint, you risk being overgeared in a muddy race (that monster climb in CO Springs), you risk derailing that chain and not being able to shift back on while on the bike like with an f der. For what? a quarter pound?
I personally love the single ring set up for simplicity. a 42 or 44t married to a 12 x 25 is all the gear inches I think you'll ever need for cross (although I am considering putting a bike together with a double front to try it out again).
