Good to know that law enforcement officers are actually looking for bikes that are stolen in boulder. I got my Gary Fisher stolen in Greeley and when I filed the police report they pretty much said the bike is gone. Good to hear he got is rig back!

Many moons ago, an errant family member left our garage door open, and some opportunistic people helped themselves to a fleet of mountain bikes -- a custom steel rig with a then-cutting edge manitou fork; a Yeti Ultimate; and a nice mid-range Bridgestone. We notified the police, posted flyers, and pretty much resigned ourselves to never seeing them again.

Well, the boys in blue did us proud. The custom steel rig showed up within 24 hours -- apparently dumped in a yard, too hot to fence. A couple weeks later, my brother spotted the Bridgestone locked up outside a tavern (it had some very recognizable trick parts), called the cops, and together they persuaded the guy with the key that maybe, just maybe,his "friend" had sold him a stolen bike with my driver's license engraved on it. But there was no sign of the crazy rasta-painted Yeti.

Then, a month or more later, we got a call from a different precinct. They had spotted the Yeti locked up on a second floor landing. A couple of cops in a cruiser had seen it while driving down an alley, recognized it, and retrieved it. They brought it back to us, stowed in the back seat of their carlike it was a hooky-playing cro-moly delinquent, code 4130.

Three for three. Doesn't get any better than that. So don't blame the boys and girls in blue -- my sense is that they will do what they can, when they can. Sometimes it's karma, just like Greg said. I am still thanking my lucky stars, lo these many years later.

And yes, we still have (and ride!) all those bikes. Glad your buddy's came back too. May he have many more happy rides!
