Something Carbon this way comes....

I'm late late late. Typhoon's still stretching on my RD-488's but a second set still need a home to get them selves glued on to. very late this season.

Look left. Tree Farm's set up. RD800's and Typhoons Light and super strong. I'll be running it this year. Mmmm.

There is rain like you wouldn't believe here in the Republic. Cold too. Belgie style. But I can not see getting out there and risking a fat cold which is going around with the kids having that awesomme booger nose syndrome....and school hasn't even started. So intervals on the rollers today instead in the garage. The ribs make me feel like I need to vomit when I am laying down but riding it seems OK as long as I do not take in huge volumes of O2. Wrist is healing like a champ. I wish it were the other way around.

Nothing's been perfect for this year's lead up but I am still psyched for the changing of the leaves. I need to be an opportunist this year. No goals but smiles. Sincerely.

Oh, and if I see you on the road, RAISE YOUR HAND TO SAY HI. You are not some PRO in the middle of an interval on Broadway. You get a hall pass if you are liquigas guy.

Ahhh, the Liquigas guy. There are some days that I think that he is just a ghost, an apparition, sort of a spirit of the best and worst that European cycling fashion has to offer. Like seeing an albino tiger, it is always a special event to see Liquigas Guy. I am usually out in mismatched shorts and jersey, sometimes team kit, but he is always in the same outfit. I wave, he doesn't; standard operating procedure.

I do have to say that he is way faster than me, but slightly ridiculous with the outfit.

Full team kit, no helmet, only a head band to protect his head.

Does he wear the same clothes every ride, or does he have multiple sets of the outfit?

That's pretty weird. I just raced a guy in the Cat 4 race TODAY in Albany, NY in a full Liquigas kit. He did have a helmet on . . .

You're a smart man Mr. Cowbells. I volunteered at the Boulder Roubaix and came down with a sore throat and head cold. And I don't even have booger nosed children.

How about some more info on those FSA 800's. I can't find much of anything about them on the web. I'd really like to hear some more about what you think.

Cam: As soon as I get some time on 'em, I'll do a report. But I am SO PSYCHED with my RD488's, I'd recommend them any day. I beat them for 2 solid season, dragged 'em to Europe, crashed on them, had other dudes pedals jam directly into the spokes while we were trading paint, and will be beating on them a 3rd season. SICK product and I'd pay retail for them again....and I am.

Hey Greg,

Did you see one of the latest emails from Cyclocross Magazine talking about legal wheels? I just bought some Easton EC90 Aeros and they are not on the list, and I looked and didn't see FSAs either. I emailed with a rep at Easton and he stated, "the rule says that no part of the wheel can come apart from the rest of the wheel in their crash test, some of our paint chipped off and we lost the UCI blessing without having changed anything from the previous year..We are currently working to find a different paint which will not do this. UCI rules are generally not enforced outside of UCI sanctioned races unless the organizer is a stickler or another racer complains at the start line. I believe that FSA lost their sanction for the same reason. Worst case scenario the decals can be cleaned off with a little acetone." According to the CXMagazine article this will affect even masters racers at 'cross nationals this year. I just wanted to give you a heads up before you potentially get snowed. I'm trying to decide if I should risk keeping them with the potential to be told that I can't start my race at nationals unless I switch my wheels, or sell mine and buy a different brand. Have you heard any of this BS?

Interesting Chris B. I'll have to scope that out. I guess lots of wheels will need to be brought to Nats then (if I go...still up in teh air this season as I am not a fan of the whole system but that's another story.). Looks like Treefarm and Wicks will be in the same boat then.

I spoke with USA Cycling today and they said that racing in the US with your FSAs or my Eastons won't be a problem, even at UCI races and nationals. There is a non-approved list for mass starts but those are for non-standard wheels (i.e. tri-spoke wheels or spinergy Rev-X, a spoke count of less than 16) so if you have a spoke count of 16 or more everything should be fine. Have fun stretching and glueing those FSAs!

Today on the backside of Carter Lake, I believe that "social interaction" did occur with the Mr. Liquigas. In full bandana, ComoBike.com kit, and team issue bike, I believe I received a quick wave back. It could be my deep imagination or the awing at his pro setup. But, I believe it was a friendly gesture, and not a flicker of the hand to wipe the glistening from his forehead.
