i am glad B won but wonder if there should be some rule like at the road nationals that if you have any UCI points you can't race the age group cats at nationals?

It's a tough call. I can see both sides of the coin. Barring purely on 'a' UCI point or a hand full of them is a bit limiting IMHO but perhaps Nats needs to be more subcategorized. One could make the case that this is what the 'B' classes are for as well.
I dunno. I just like to bury myself with the best I can race against in the geezers cat.
