Is it me, or is it too early for short track?
But I got excited when I saw this. New Belgium Brewery who is a massive supporter of cycling (not just CO cycling...) is launching an April short track MTB series. Which leads me to: is this too early? Maybe not as a lot of the upcoming MTB races feature STXC alongside the staples of XC and SD...so maybe I am just being an inordinate wuss. I'll miss out on the first two, but want to go and scope out the second two.
Anywhoo, click on the image to learn more about the events.

Too early? Nah. For $5 it's too much of a deal to pass up.
It's been a long time since I've raced a mountain bike... What's short track?
STXC is essentially a crit on mountainbikes. They are typically held on sections of a full XC course with a wee bit of elevation gain and some technical features and last 20-30 minutes. Extremely high intensity suiting 'crossers given the red line need/no recovery for that time period. They are super fun, easy to train for and great for spectators as, like cross, you get to see your favorite racer ever few minutes as opposed to one, maybe, on a 2 hour MTB course.
sounds great. now that I have a hardtail Scott as a race bike, I may have to jump in one of these. it does sound like a lot more fun (and a lot less dangerous) than jumping into early season crits or road races for some early season fitness. need a kick in my arse before Rabbit Valley and Nathrop!
