Rocking the Discos! | Singlespeed Chain Guide

Check it! My main man Whit-J dialed me into a pair of Discos he'd made (I believe with T-Brown) back in the day. I need to get the whole history of their genesis and I'll update this post. A few years ago, they cranked out these ingenious guides in Ti and carbon (and maybe aluminum?) which all but prevent chains from jumping. I'm honored to have a set! I used a combination of full spaces and 'sliver' spacers as the carbon itself is slightly thinner than the aluminum spacers.

Anyways, friggin' trick! Check it!

Dear Giro - Um, in what decade did you design the Prolight?

OK, so everyone heard the hype that Giro was going to unveil a new skid lid at this years Tour. They have a record of doing this having unveiled truly bleeding edge helmets like the Boreas and the Pneumo and later the Atmos and now the sexy Ionos in Tours past. Rabobank and Postal would give the public first-looks with these plastic and styrofoam works of art. Those helmets were like looking at the future. Super ventilated, unbelievably light for their time.

So back to this announcement.

WTF Giro? Truth: Whoever gave the thumbs up to release this thing needs their aesthetic licensce snatched from their wallet and shred...post haste. Please tell me: What is the difference visually between this helmet worn days ago (and yes, this is 2009)...

...to this helmet...released, oh I suspect 1996. Maybe 1997 (actually it's a new member of their line, the Stylus, at the lower end of the price spectrum):

I just don't get it. The sick 175g light weight of this helmet notwithstanding (compare it to Specialized's 225g for the S Works), the helmet is a giant step backwards in aesthetic design. What happened?

Digging in the Dirt

What a rad day, today. Woke up with lots of thoughts given the 365 days which have passed since the transition…and yet I still had a bounce in my step. Life carries on. I wanted to get out and do something fun with the boys….but what? And then I got a text from Miguel Cody:

Cody: Keller: 10 AM. BMX with the kids. Bring shovels.

Keller: Kid, I’m there!

And so we hooked up at the house of the raddest and most hospitable family I’ve ever met! Jay and Michelle are CA transplants to Boulder just like our family. Made the move purely for lifestyle and kids and room to grow. And they are getting it DONE with a capital D. To the extent of ensuring room to build a BMX course in the back yard! So we dug and sprayed and dug and sprayed some more until we had this little kid’s BMX course dialed. And the kids railed. And the dads drank beer.

Ah weekends. Now back to work tomorrow. And it feels good. Yes, I really just said that.
